Drug Company Kickbacks to Doctors and Pharmacists

The US government is filing a law suit against the drug company, Novartis, for giving $65 million kickbacks to physicians and pharmacists to prescribe Lotrel, Valturna, Starlix, and Myfortis over the past decade. These kickbacks were in the form of dinners at high end restaurants, cash, rebates, and discounts.

One extreme example is from a six person oncology group that received $2.9 million in kickbacks in just one year! It is a huge conflict of interest that is common practice for many oncologists to make in excess of a hundred thousand dollars a year in drug company rebates for using their drugs. Many of these profits involve Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA hospital system.

type

Breathing Problems in Children - Maryland Health Today

Asthma is the most common chronic illness of school-age children. In this half-hour interview program, Dr. Carol Blaisdell, a pediatric lung specialist at the University of Maryland Hospital for Children, explains some of the symptoms and treatments for asthma. She also discusses asthma triggers including allergens (dogs, cats, dust, ragweed, pollen, mold, etc) and irritants (smoking, vapors, chemicals, etc.). Dr. Blaisdell conducted research that showed that asthma hospital admissions are highest in the fall, rather than in summer as some people might believe. The program also takes viewers on board the Breathmobile, a mobile asthma and allergy clinic that travels to Baltimore City schools to diagnose and treat children with asthma. The second half of the program also examines other breathing problems in children including bronchiolitis, sleep apnea and cystic fibrosis. (Dr. Blaisdell is also an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine).

Facts of my death, This is drjhaney. I hope you noticed the title of this message. It is one that I have been working on over the last couple of days in an effort to tell you about my death of a heart attack on January 15, 2013, in the examination of the admission room at Summit Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee, in the emergency room. It was on this date that I took my wife and granddaughter, Alana to have a muscle strain examined that my wife had been struggling with over the last couple of weeks. While she was being examined in the admission room, I took a seat at the end of her bed, and laid back to rest my eyes, and had a heart attack, witnessed by my wife, granddaughter and medical personell from the emergency room. During the course of this excitment, i was dead for approxiomately 8-10 minutes, having lost my counsciousness, my pulse and my heart beat. After vigerous efforts on the part of the medical staff, the wailing and pleading of my wife and grand daughter for my life (joined by all of the other medical personall who had gathered in the hallway because of all of the noise and crying, I regained my counsciousness, pulse and heart beat and came back to life. In short, I died for approximately 8-10 minutes, and came back to life. This is the essence of the story that can be easily varified. I want you to know about this story because much information has been posted on the various social media websites about my sickness and death. I am still alive. I am still uploading videos to the social media sites and this message will be a part of those uploads in the future. My address is http://www.tnstate.edu/write/student/videos.aspx. I want you to go there and click on the videos link and go to my channels on www.youtube.com, www.twitter.com, www.facebook.com, www.drmdk.com, www.icyou.com, and www.myspace.com. I will talk with you later; have to get ready for church now, drjhaney

type

Stress Fracture an Athletes Curse

It's been described as the curse of athletes - the stress fracture.

"Stress fracture is a small crack that can occur over time by accumulating trauma. Usually overuse. Something we see much more common in runners or triathletes. It can be seen in basketball players but not quite as often," says Dr. James Bynum, orthopedic surgeon on Lee Memorial Health System's medical staff.

It occurs when muscles become fatigued and can't absorb added shock. Eventually, the tired muscle transfers the overload of stress to the bone, causing a tiny crack.

"There will be pain or dull ache. Usually they'll know they are developing it over time. But sometimes it can be pretty subtle. Sometimes it will just feel like a cramp or a bruise," says Dr. Bynum.

Trouble spots are the weight-bearing bones of the lower leg and foot. It's the foot strike that causes most of the trauma. Which is why it hits runners so hard.

"Because you can't really feel what's happening over a long period time," says Kath Kinross, doctor of physical therapy on Lee Memorial Health System's medical staff.

Research in sports medicine finds simple alterations in stride or increasing leg strength might reduce the risk of the most common type of stress fracture. Brushing up on the proper mechanics can also lower the stress level.

"Could be running with like this terrible long stride, landing on your heels and you wouldn't realize that that was a problem. Until a long time down the road and it might be harder to fix," says Kinross.

Proper rest between activities is the prevention and the cure. It takes 6-8 weeks for a stress fracture to heal.

Public access to vaccine risk information is being restricted and vaccine injuries and deaths covered up. NVIC President, Barbara Loe Fisher's referenced commentary educates on how the human right to informed consent to medical risk-taking is being violated today.

Antidepressants Increase Adverse Reactions in Surgical Patients

According to an article published in the April 2013 issue of the journal Internal Medicine, patients on SSRI antidepressants at the time of surgery have a 20% increased mortality, 9% increased risk for bleeding, and 22% increased risk for readmission within a month of discharge from the hospital! This was based on a review of 530,000 surgical patients from 2006-8. SSRIs such as Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Luvox, Paxil, and Zoloft, interfere with platelet function that can interfere with blood coagulation.

Common side effects of SSRIs include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, insomnia, impotence, suicidal ideation, mania and much more. They interfere with the toxicity of Coumadin, digitalis, antiarrhythmic drugs, tricyclic antidepressants, triptans, benzodiazepines, and dilantin. SSRIs toxicity is increased by alcohol, diuretics, Sudafed, lithium, Meridia, Ambien, Tramadol, and St. Johns Wort.

For a family of drugs that is no more effective for placebo for mild to moderate depression it should make you wonder why they are used most of the time!

type
