Nearly half of all new sexually transmitted disease (STD) cases are in young people between the ages of 15 and 24, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health care providers play an important role in teen sexual health. By making sexual health a normal part of every check-up, providers can help put teens at ease and encourage conversation. For teens, talking openly and honestly about sexual activity will help them get the information they need on STDs, STD testing, pregnancy prevention and safe relationships - all in a confidential, trusted setting. As part of a public/private collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, Be Smart. Be Well. brought together four young people and medical experts to talk about teen sexual health, and how teens and providers can start conversations about sexual health.
